Dance Floor Rental Size Guide: How to Pick the Right Fit
Renting a dance floor comes down to three decisions: how big, where it goes, and what fits your space. This guide walks through all three, plus a sizing chart, so you can order with confidence.
Why Rent a Dance Floor?
A dance floor does more than look nice: it tells your guests exactly where the party is happening. Without one, people wait for a crowd to form before joining in. With a defined space, that hesitation disappears.
After 20+ years running DJ services across Northeastern Pennsylvania, we've watched what actually gets people dancing, and it starts with giving them a place that feels intentional. A dance floor also anchors the rest of your layout: it gives your DJ or band a clear focal point to play to, instead of guessing where the crowd will end up.
Here's what a rented dance floor gets you that grass or pavement can't:
- Pulls people in. Guests are far more likely to dance when there's a clear, defined area, instead of scattered pockets around the yard.
- Your yard survives the party. Two hours of 30+ people dancing on grass turns it to mud. Once that happens, guests avoid the spot or damage another part of your lawn finding a new one.
- Softer underfoot. Our floors are wood, plastic, or rubber-based with a slight give, far more comfortable than concrete or pavement for hours of dancing.
- More comfort, more dancing. Comfortable guests stay on the floor longer, and a full dance floor is what makes the night memorable.
3 Factors That Determine Your Size and Placement
Size
There's a real formula for dance floor sizing, and our chart below does the math for you.
- ~40–50% of guests dance at once
- ~4.5 sq ft per dancer (9 sq ft per couple)
- Size up 1–2 sizes for a dance-heavy crowd
Location
Placement matters as much as size. Three rules we follow on every setup:
- Level ground: no dips or mounds over 6"
- DJ or band at one end, not off to the side
- Centered in the event space so it draws in dancers
Fit Within Your Space
Guest count sets the minimum size; your venue sets the maximum.
- Several width/length combos available
- Fits patios, tents, and yards of any shape
- Use the chart below, then adjust for your footprint
Most events don't rent a dance floor on its own. If you're already planning for seating, it's worth pairing your floor with our table and chair rentals so delivery, setup, and pickup happen in a single trip instead of coordinating multiple vendors.

Dance Floor Rental FAQs
How big of a dance floor do I need for 100 guests?
For a guest list of 80–140, our chart recommends a 14' x 18' floor, which comfortably handles up to 56 guests dancing at once. See the full chart above or contact us for an exact recommendation based on your guest list.
Can a dance floor be set up on grass?
Yes. Our portable dance floors are designed to be installed over grass, gravel, or pavement, as long as the ground is reasonably level with no dips or mounds over 6 inches.
Do you deliver, set up, and take down the dance floor?
Yes, delivery, installation, and pickup are included as part of your overall event setup. You don't need to do anything but pick the size.
How far in advance should I book a dance floor rental?
For events with 150+ guests, we recommend booking at least six months out. Smaller events under 100 guests can usually be booked within a few months. See our full FAQ page for booking details.
What if my venue is outside your standard delivery area?
We serve Waymart, Scranton, Honesdale, Carbondale, and the surrounding Northeastern Pennsylvania area as standard. For larger events beyond that radius (including Allentown, PA, Bloomsburg, PA, and Monticello, NY), we build a custom proposal starting at a $4,000 order minimum.
